Dream11 App Settings That Actually Matter
Notifications, permissions, biometric login, marketing opt-outs - the settings inside Dream11 (and the ones your phone controls for it) that change day-to-day matchday experience, and which ones to leave alone.
Notifications: Get The Alerts That Matter, Skip The Rest
Notifications are the single setting most players get wrong. The platform sends three categories: transactional (your contest is locking, your team was accepted, you won a contest), live match updates (your captain's score at milestones), and promotional (new contest formats, season launches, partner offers). The first two you almost always want - the third is purely optional.
Two specific gotchas: after any phone OS update, Android and iOS both reset notification permissions for apps that weren't running during the update. If your alerts suddenly stop arriving after an OS update, this is the first place to check. The second is battery-optimization modes on Android phones - aggressive battery savers can block apps from waking in the background to deliver push notifications, which makes live score pings arrive minutes late or not at all.
Permissions: Camera, Location, Storage
Camera permission is requested only when you go through KYC (document upload for withdrawals above the limit) - it's not asked upfront on first install. Location is requested the first time you try to join a paid contest, because fantasy sports contests are restricted in some Indian states and the platform needs to verify eligibility. Both can be denied without losing core functionality (you can browse, build teams, and join contests from states where it's permitted without granting location, though you may need to confirm eligibility another way).
Storage permission is usually automatic on Android - the app needs internal storage for its cache and downloaded assets. On iPhone it's handled by the system without an explicit prompt. If you ever see a "storage full" error from the app, clearing its cache from system settings (not from inside the app) is usually what fixes it. Our troubleshooting guide covers the full reset sequence.
Biometric Login And Two-Step Verification
Biometric login (fingerprint on Android, Face ID or Touch ID on iPhone) is opt-in but worth turning on. It keeps your account accessible without typing the OTP on every launch, and it works in tandem with the platform's server-side checks - biometric is local, but each login still validates against the server. If your phone's biometric data ever gets reset (factory reset, security wipe), you'll need to log in with OTP once, then re-enable biometric.
Two-step verification (a separate OTP sent to email in addition to phone) is an extra safeguard worth turning on if you deposit significant amounts. It adds a step at sign-in but means a stolen phone number alone isn't enough to compromise the account.
Language And Display Settings
The app supports a small set of Indian languages alongside English. Switching language affects the UI labels but not the player names (which are official and not translated). For most readers this is a one-time preference, but if you share the app with a family member who prefers Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, or Bengali, the toggle is in Settings → Language. Changing it does not affect your account or contest entries.
Quick Settings Audit (5 Minutes)
- • Open Dream11 → Settings → confirm notification toggles for transactional alerts are on
- • On your phone → Settings → Apps → Dream11 → Notifications → confirm system-level push is allowed
- • On Android: Settings → Battery → confirm Dream11 is not in optimized mode
- • Settings → Security → enable biometric login if your device supports it
- • Settings → Email Preferences → opt out of marketing emails if you want only contest alerts
Run this audit once after any major update, and your matchday notifications stop being a coin flip.
Settings FAQs
Why am I not getting match alerts?
Three usual suspects: notification permission got reset after a phone update, battery optimization is suppressing background activity, or the in-app notification toggle was turned off. Check all three.
Can I disable contest-locking alerts?
No - those are transactional and intentionally non-disableable to protect players from missing deadlines. You can mute promotional notifications without affecting transactional ones.
Will changing language affect my team data?
No. Language is purely cosmetic. Your teams, contest entries, and balance stay exactly as they were.
